Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP)
All students are encouraged undertake the Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP) as a full school subject. Spread over two years, the LCVP combines the academic strengths of the established Leaving Certificate with a new and dynamic focus on enterprise, the world of work, information technology and languages. It promotes the skills and qualities of self-reliance, innovation and enterprise in an integrated programme that will prove relevant to the lives of students on leaving school for further education, for employment and for self-employment. A strong base for LCVP is secured in the Transition Year Programme.
The primary goal of the LCVP is to prepare young people for adult life by ensuring that they are educated in the broadest sense. Throughout the programme students are encouraged to:
• Be innovative and enterprising and adapt to changing circumstances
• Take responsibility for their own learning
• Evaluate data and devise solutions to problems
• Communicate their thoughts and ideas effectively and work with others as part of a team
• Investigate and plan career options
• Use information and communications technologies
These skills and qualities are equally relevant to the needs of those preparing for further education, seeking employment or planning to start their own business.
The LCVP is made up two Link Modules
LINK MODULE 1 – PREPARATION FOR THE WORLD OF WORK
Students will research and investigate local employment opportunities, develop job seeking skills such as letter writing, CV presentation, interview techniques; gain valuable practical experience of the world of work; interview and work shadow a person in a career area that interests them.
LINK MODULE 2 – ENTERPRISE EDUCATION
Students will be involved in organising visits to local business and community enterprises; meet and interview enterprising people on - site and in the classroom; plan and undertake interesting activities that will build self - confidence, creativity, initiative and develop teamwork, communication and computer skills.
ASSESSMENT OF THE LINK MODULES
The Link Modules are assessed by Written Examination (40%) and by Portfolio of Coursework (60%).
Students assemble the portfolio over the two years of the programme and it is assessed at the end of the final year of the Leaving Certificate. Portfolio Content includes:

The LCVP is graded at Distinction, Merit and Pass standards. These grades are recognised in terms of Points for CAO applicants.
Distinction: 66 points (80-100%)
Merit: 46 points (65-79%)
Pass: 28 points (50-64%)
Senior Cycle Reform
The National Council for Curriculum & Assessment (NCCA) have prepared a schedule of senior cycle subjects to be reviewed and redeveloped. The redeveloped subjects will begin in 2025 with the final tranche being introduced in 2029.There are also two new subjects added to the offering at Senior Cycle:
Drama, Film and Theatre Studies; and Climate Action and Sustainable Development, providing greater choice for students to better reflect their range of interests and support the development of a wider range of talents and skills.
The Senior Cycle Level 1 Learning Programme and the Senior Cycle Level 2 Learning Programme have been developed by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) as follow on programmes for students who are progressing from
Level 1 Learning Programmes (L1LPs) and Level 2 Learning Programmes (L2LPs) at junior cycle.
The Senior Cycle Level 1 Learning Programme (SCL1LP) is designed for students, who are likely
to have significant delayed development across a number of areas including learning, communication,
language and adaptive skills.
The Senior Cycle Level 2 Learning Programme (SCL2LP) is designed for students whose cognitive
profiles prevent them from accessing the Leaving Certificate Established (LCE) programme, Leaving
Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP) or the Leaving Certificate Applied Programme (LCA).
They are likely to have delayed development across a number of areas, including learning,
